Wow — where did Term 2 go? It honestly feels like we just blinked and suddenly we’re at the end! This term has been a whirlwind of activity, and there’s so much to celebrate.
One of the major highlights was our musical, Disney’s Newsies. What a show! The students absolutely nailed it, and the rave reviews (not to mention all the media buzz) prove just how much heart and talent went into every performance. Just when we thought the final bow marked the end of the story, we received an invitation to perform again at Government House — talk about being the talk of the town!
This event was made even more special as Belinda, our Vocational Education and Training (VET) guru, shared her passion for the fantastic opportunities that our partnership with the Beacon Foundation fosters. Several of our Rosny College VET students — Sarah, Ivory, Mia, Rhys, Polly, and Lottie were involved in work experience to help bring the event to life, from organising the floral arrangements, to working in the kitchen and serving guests, they did an amazing job behind the scenes. Students Layla and Asher also joined Belinda on stage to speak about their own placements — with Layla reflecting on her time with the Federal Group’s People and Culture team, and Asher sharing insights from working with Earthworm. Their stories were truly inspiring!
Midyear exams were another key milestone, and I was really pleased to see so many students approach them with focus and determination. Exams are never easy, but this preparation and commitment will pay off come final external assessments in November. Midyear exams are an important mechanism to demonstrate your knowledge and growth and gain valuable feedback from your teachers. Well done to all who sat exams and completed major assessments!
This term the Wellbeing Leadership Team launched the Values Commendation Program. This program has allowed staff to recognise and celebrate student achievement by linking positive behaviour to the DECYP’s values of Respect, Courage, Growth, Responsibility, and Connection. Staff have nominated students who demonstrate these values in their learning and interactions. Students who receive a certificate go into Values Commendation raffle, with prizes to be drawn next week! This initiative not only reinforces our shared values but also promotes a culture of recognition and positivity across the college.
A big shout-out goes to our Education Support Staff — on Support Staff Appreciation Day, we paused to recognise these incredible individuals who work tirelessly to help our students succeed in learning. We simply couldn’t do what we do without them.
We also acknowledged International Nurses Day by celebrating our wonderful school nurses, Kathrine and Kylie, who are key members of our Wellbeing Team. Their work ranges from offering student drop-in health and education sessions, to supporting families and staff with complex health needs. They deliver health promotion aligned with the Australian Curriculum — including topics such as mental health, drug and alcohol education, nutrition, and body esteem — and act as vital links between education and health, providing support for our students and families.
Another standout event was our Taster Day, which brought around 500 enthusiastic Year 10 students from both public and private schools onto our campus. The energy was fantastic as students sampled different courses and got a feel for college life. This event is just the beginning — it leads into Preliminary Enrolments in Term 3 and our Jump Start Days in Term 4, where students will spend two full days trialling classes they’re considering for next year. If you know of any families thinking about joining the Rosny community in 2026, please encourage them to follow us on social media and contact our office directly at 62 449200.
For our current Year 11 students, preliminary enrolment for Year 12 will begin in Week 3 of Term 3, supported by the homegroup teachers, our experienced course counsellors, and staff from the At Rosny and Beyond hub.
Most recently, we held our annual International Food Fair, a much-anticipated annual event that brought the flavours of the world to our campus. Many of our international students played a central role in developing and preparing the food on offer, proudly sharing dishes from their home countries. With the support of our wonderful food and catering teams, the event was not only a culinary delight but also a celebration of cultural diversity within our college. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed — it truly was a treat for the senses.
As we head into Term 3, it’s the perfect time to reflect and refocus. For all students — but especially our Year 12s — this is the home stretch, with only 14 weeks (10-weeks in Term 3 and 4 weeks in Term 4) of scheduled classes remaining. What you do over the coming months can have an impact on your final outcomes.
- For our Year 11 students, this term is about continuing to ensure you’re building a strong foundation. To be on track to achieve your literacy and numeracy ticks, along with at least 60 credit points, to ensure you're in the best position to complete the TCE in Year 12. Use this time to develop good habits, stay engaged in class, and ask for help when you need it.
- For our Year 12 students, the focus now is on finishing strong. Whether you're aiming for your TCE (120 points, literacy, numeracy and ICT tick), an ATAR, a VET qualification, or simply personal success, now is the time to make every class, every assessment, and every conversation with your teacher count.
Term 3 reports will be sent out in week 4 and offer a valuable checkpoint. If you're tracking well — fantastic, keep up the great work and check in with you teachers to see what you can do to bump it up.
If your results show that you're at risk of not passing a course or not meeting TCE requirements, don’t panic. The most important thing is to act now. Start by having a conversation with your course teachers or home group teacher to understand what steps you need to take to improve. Learning Conversations will be held on Tuesday 26th August.
There is support available, and you're not alone. We’re here to guide you with practical strategies to help you succeed. Taking responsibility now opens your options and gives you the best chance of reaching your goals.
We believe in you, and we’re with you every step of the way. Let’s make Term 3 count.
A huge thank you again to our staff, students, and families for making Term 2 such a vibrant, productive, and rewarding time.

This May, our talented cast, crew, and band performed the Rosny College 2025 musical production, NEWSIES THE BROADWAY MUSICAL to more than 2000 audience members across the season.
The team, comprised of staff, students and industry professionals, spent 3 months of hard work to bring the production to the stage, learning scripts and dance steps, harmonies and instrumentation, building sets, creating costumes and props. Over 70 students participated in the production in both on and off-stage roles.
Everyone worked incredibly hard in all areas of the show, and we couldn’t be prouder of the efforts and commitment that they demonstrated throughout. This production was one of Rosny’s most successful to date and the College staff and students were so pleased with incredible feedback they received.
In case you missed the performance itself, you can find a review of the show on Stage Whispers here: https://www.stagewhispers.com.au/schools/disney%E2%80%99s-newsies-broadway-musical
A huge thank you goes out to all involved in the show, to our sponsors and to our college community for their ongoing support of this wonderful learning opportunity.

Rosny College students played a significant role in a recent Beacon youth led fundraising event, hosted by Her Excellency the Honourable Barbara Baker AC, Governor of Tasmania, and Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers AO. The luncheon highlighted the achievements of two students: Asher, currently undertaking a School Based Traineeship with Earthworm, and Layla, a former student now employed as a Business Trainee with the Federal Group. Both students shared their experiences and future aspirations.
Our VET programs were instrumental in the event's success. Certificate II Hospitality students Sarah and Ivory managed Front of House duties, while Certificate II in Cookery students Mia and Rhys handled Back of House operations. Additionally, students Polly and Lottie excelled in assisting with floral arrangements alongside Inka Souris.
The event concluded with a stellar performance by students from our 2025 musical, Newsies who not only got to enjoy a special lunch but shared three shows from the production to various industry representatives.
Thank you to Her Excellency and the Beacon Foundation for inviting Rosny College staff and students to showcase the exceptional opportunities the College offers their students and the incredible talent at Rosny College. It was an extremely special day for all involved.

This term we welcomed and celebrated the Student Association for 2025 with our annual constitution signing and lunch.
The lunch was catered by our wonderful VET hospitality class who provided excellent food and service for the occasion.
Congratulations and thank you to Lilly, Hunter, Issy, Gemma, Kaitlyn, Pippa, Jacob, Riley and Caitlin. We look forward to working with you this year.

The Access to Work class has had a busy year exploring possible employment, training and volunteering opportunities in the community. The students are starting to think about their options after completing Grade 12.
Some of the places they’ve visited regarding employment and training have been Oakdale Enterprises in Moonah, Tadpac Print in Glenorchy, the Bridgewater Bridge Project, Hamlet Café in Hobart and the Campbell Street TasTAFE campus.
The value of volunteering has been reinforced with our visits to TenLives Cat Centre, the Dog’s Home of Tasmania at Risdon Vale and the Warrane Mornington Neighbourhood Centre. We have also caught a Metro bus to the Hobart CBD on two occasions, getting off the bus near TasTAFE and then visiting the Metro Shop in the Hobart CBD.
These experiences have given the class opportunities to build confidence and skills to aid the transition to employment, volunteering and training in 2026.

LEGAL STUDIES TIMELY EXCURSION
What a Tumultuous Day for the Legal Studies Class to Visit Parliament!
On what was meant to be a routine educational visit, Rosny College Legal Studies students found themselves front-row witnesses to a major political shake-up. Seated in the public gallery of Parliament House, we watched as the Leader of the Opposition – backed by the Greens and Independents – launched a no-confidence motion against the government. Talk about seeing democracy in action!
Outdoor Education students had an amazing paddle in the Derwent River this term. They were visited by seals and dolphins as they paddled 10km from Rosny to Constitution Docks, to the Bridge and back to Rosny. We are so lucky to have the Derwent River at our doorstep!

Rosny College Cert II Tourism class has been busy this term, full of opportunities both at college and out on location.
They visited the City of Hobart Winter Feast prior to the opening so the students could see the Back of House operations for a large-scale event/festival. The students also enjoyed a familiarisation trip to the Cascade Female Factory where the manager Shelly introduced them to the harsh stories of the women that lived there. They also visited the local tourism hotspots via the Red Decker Hop on Hop off bus, which was a new experience for the locals.
In week 9 and 10, the students visited the new Hilton Doubletree Hotel for a hands-on experience and the Tourism Conference in Launceston, which will included lots of stops to Northern Regions tourism attractions along the way.

DEBATING – NATIONAL AND COLLEGE COMPETITIONS
Congratulations to Emi who was a reserve member of the Tasmanian team that competed in the National Schools Debating Championships (NSDC) in May 2025. The National Schools Debating Championships (NSDC) are Australia's premier debating competition for secondary school students in Australia. Tasmania performed incredibly well, with a unanimous victory against the Australian Capital Territory and two split decision victories against the Northern Territory and Queensland (who were the eventual runners-up of the championship). Emi has also shown incredible leadership at Rosny College, helping to establish a debating team this year, and captaining our team.
In very exciting news, with the return of a debating team at Rosny College this year they made the semi-finals of the college debating competition, competing against Elizabeth College in week 9 against Elizabeth College. The semi-finals were proudly hosted at Rosny, and while the team didn’t come away with the win they are keen for the 2026 competition already!
VCA, Adjoa Andoh, Drama show
It’s been a huge term 2 in our Drama department with opportunities galore for students across all Drama and Technical Theatre subjects.
As well as attending live productions of Jekyll and Hyde at the Theatre Royal and Clue at the Hidden Theatre, the Theatre Performance participated in two professional workshops this term. In May they were given the incredible opportunity to go to Rose Bay High School and work with Professional actor and director Adjoa Andoh. Adjoa (perhaps best known for her role as Lady Danbury in Bridgerton) worked with students on ways to use their voices in the storytelling of a text. It was an exciting and uplifting experience for all involved. Recently Henry (Rosny Alumni), Myf and Mieka from the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) ran a physical theatre workshop for our students and talked about life after college, whether that’s further study or work pathways, and what it’s like moving to the mainland for university. Students are looking forward to going to the VCA for a tour and workshop during the Melbourne trip in week 10.
In Week 7, the Drama 3 class performed the one-act satirical comedy The Internet is Distract-OH LOOK A KITTEN by Ian McWethy. The play followed protagonist, Micah, who just wants to finish a simple homework assignment—but the internet has other ideas. From cat videos to conspiracy theories, every corner of the web and the digital world was brought to life on stage in a whirlwind of characters and chaos. The play was well-received, with great audiences each night laughing along with the exaggerated characters. It was a fun experience for all, and a timely gentle reminder about the importance of focus, mindfulness, and the value of unplugging every now and then. Congratulations to all the students involved, who worked hard to bring the production to life!
