As we move into Term 4, there are several important milestones and opportunities for our students and families.
Year 12 – The Final Stretch
For our Year 12 students, this is the final term of classes before exams in Term 4. By now, TCE Health Checks have been completed, so every student should have a clear understanding of where they are placed and what is still required to achieve their TCE or TCEA. The key message is don’t leave things to the last minute. Begin preparing early, stay on top of revision, and make use of the supports available such ats tutorials.
Exams for Years 11 and 12
End-of-year exams are just around the corner. While it may feel like there’s still plenty of time, now is the time to plan, revise and consolidate. A steady approach through the term will make a big difference come exam time.
Family Satisfaction Survey
You should have received the annual Family Satisfaction Survey. We strongly encourage you to take the time to complete this. Your feedback is highly valued and plays an important role in shaping the direction of our college into the future.
Lifting Literacy
We’re working hard to strengthen literacy across our college, with a focus this year on explicit vocabulary instruction. In 2024, we saw a 15% increase in students achieving a Satisfactory Achievement (SA) in Literacy Tick classes, and we’ve already reached our system goal of 93% of students achieving the Literacy Tick, up from 91% last year. These results reflect our commitment to high-impact teaching and student success, and we’re excited to continue building on this momentum.
Enrolments for 2026
All Year 11 students should by now have completed their enrolment for 2026. If this hasn’t yet been finalised, it is important to contact a POD Leader or a member of the Transition Team as soon as possible. This will ensure planning is in place for a smooth progression into next year. If you know of families that are seeking enrolment and are not currently at Rosny, please encourage them to contact us now to avoid missing out on courses.
This newsletter captures just a snapshot of the many activities, programs and celebrations that have taken place across the College this term. From learning achievements to cultural, sporting and community events, there has been so much happening that it would be impossible to include everything. We hope this edition gives you a good sense of the learning, opportunities across our community and the good vibes happening here.
WHEN IN MELBOURNE… HAP, Visual Art and Performing Arts Melbourne Trips
HAP Group
The HAP trip to Melbourne provided a unique opportunity for Rosny students to explore tertiary education opportunities at some of the best universities in Australia. Students visited the University of Melbourne, Deakin and Monash, where they learnt about degree structures, toured the campus, met with academics and student ambassadors, and even got to have a look at potential accommodation options.
They also experienced the wonder of the State Library, had a private tour of Parliament house and visited the magical Lightscape display at the Royal Botanic Gardens.

Performing Arts Group
The Performing Arts Trip has had an incredible first time in Melbourne experiencing a wide range of cultural and industry activities.
After an early start to Day 1 they completed an Amazing Race to get used to the city and find out where all the theatres were. They then visited ACMI before heading to the opening night of the production of 1984 at the Comedy Theatre.
Day 2 started with a fantastic tour of the Arts Centre including Hamer Hall before seeing the mind-blowing production of Beetlejuice. After the show our students were lucky enough to participate in a Q & A with some of the cast including Eddie Perfect (lead actor and writer of the lyrics/music). We finished off the evening at the Crown and Southbank with some great food and games.
Another action-packed day, day 3 saw the group head to the VCA (Victorian College of the Arts) for a tour and workshops. In the afternoon they met with some of our Rosny Alumni (Lucy and Maddy) who are currently studying and working in Melbourne. This gave students to opportunity to find out firsthand about working in the industry, applying for university courses and what moving to Melbourne after year 12 is like. AND if that wasn’t enough, they saw another incredible professional musical, Hadestown, in the evening.
With some great meals and a little bit of shopping thrown in for good measure, it’s safe to say the students had an amazing time away.

Visual Art Trip Group
Visual Art students had a packed itinerary during their Melbourne trip. Some of the highlights included a visit to the NGV’s Ian Potter Centre, where students attended a talk on the Top Arts student exhibition, followed by a tour through this impressive exhibition as well as the NGV’s permanent Australian collection. There was also a chance to get creative with a visit to the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA), which provided some fun hands-on activities. A magical evening at Lightscape was another standout, where the Royal Botanic Gardens came alive with stunning light and sound installations - a real highlight of the trip.
Despite some rainy weather, spirits remained high as students explored Melbourne’s iconic laneways on a street art walk, immersing themselves in the vibrant urban art scene. Students also enjoyed some quiet moments in Federation Square, creating impressive plein air sketches.
Possibly the real highlight of the trip however was the opportunity to view the French Impressionist exhibition at the NGV, offering a rare glimpse into one of art history’s most influential movements, students had the privilege of viewing iconic artworks that most people will only ever view in books or online!
There was also time for a more playful and interactive art experience with a visit to the ARTVO, where students had great fun engaging with optical illusion murals, and, of course, no Melbourne trip would be complete without a quick stop at the DFO, a Krispy Kreme (or two!), and a visit to Culture Kings!
Students had a fantastic time and gained a rich insight into Melbourne’s diverse and exciting visual arts scene.

The 2025 Young Archies was a celebration of Tasmania’ artistic talent, and finalists were present from across the state. The competition (based on the national portrait prize; the Archibald) requires young people to create a portrait of a person they share a connection with.
From Rosny, strong finalists were selected: Bella and Minna (year 12); and Violet and Finn (year 11). Violet, a Visual Art 3 student, drew a charcoal portrait of her brother entitled “Jordan Halton”
Minna, a Studio Practice student, chose to paint an acrylic portrait of her brother, entitled “Rev”. Minna achieved a “Highly Commended” award.
Bella, a Visual Art 3 student, painted an acrylic portrait titled “Duality’s Embrace”, which was based on her classmate Hannah. Bella also achieved a “Highly Commended” award for her submission.
Finn, also a Visual Art 3 student, painted a portrait in oil of his classmate entitled “Nick in the Art Room”. Finn was the overall winner for the senior student category, as well as winning the prestigious Tony Woodward award
Held at the Fine Art school at Hunter Street, the atmosphere was upbeat, engaged and enthusiastic. We were all captivated by the range of work on display.
Congratulations Violet, Finn, Bella and Minna for your courage, talent, and hard work!

The 2025 Rosny College Ski trip to Mt Hotham was an outstanding success. The group of 42 students and 5 teachers set off on Sunday 20th July amidst epic conditions and forecast snow. The group used the flight and long bus trip to break the ice and make new friendships.
As we arrived on the Mountain to settle in the group were fitted out with all their equipment that would be needed to tear up the slopes before settling into the amazing Pegasus Lodge. No previous experience is necessary to participate on the ski trip and on the first morning the large group was separated into groups of skiers and snowboarders for lessons that were pitched from beginner through to advanced. The progress made throughout the week was phenomenal with some groups performing tricks in the terrain park and 360 spins as they skied down the hill. Each day the group would return to the lodge a little more tired than the day before but full of achievement and excitement for the day ahead. As night filled in the group were able to enjoy a delicious meal and warm up by the fire in the lodge or battle it out over the pool table. Many of the group were returning from the previous year which allowed for traditions to be passed on and the fantastic helpful attitude needed to make for a memorable experience with a large group shared with the new team members.
We look forward to 2026 and more great snow!

The Rosny Science department hosted over 200 students from four local Primary Schools during Science week for a range of demonstrations and activities run by our own science students. Fulsome, informative fun was had by all.
Also as part of Science Week celebrations members of the Rosny College Science community attended the 25th Science Week Reception at Government House organised by Elizabeth College. It was a chance to network with other students, scientists and science educators.

Preparing for Exams, Answering Exam Questions and Understanding Exam Marking
Students are encouraged to access the range of TASC resources available to assist them as they are Preparing for exams, including the student information resources.
For example, How to Answer Exam Questions and Understand Exam Marking provides advice about how to answer exam questions (including what to do if a student thinks there could be an error and the importance of attempting all exam questions so there is a response to mark). It also provides information about how exam marking is kept fair and equitable. This resource will assist teachers in preparing students for exams and help students to feel confident that they are providing high quality exam answers in a range of circumstances.
BIG BAND EXTRAVAGANZA AND GROOVE ORCHESTRA
Term 3 is always huge for our Music Department with our Music students from all classes getting so many opportunities to perform both at our events and in the wider community.
This term several of our brass, woodwind and vocalists combined with some players from Rose Bay High School performed with Matt Ives and his Big Band at our Big Band Extravaganza. Thank you to everyone who came along for an amazing night of music.
It’s also been so amazing seeing our Groove Orchestra getting out and about performing to our students. Recently they performed in the common room as a pop-up lunchtime concert.

RosnyStock is a rock concert-style event and a long-standing tradition at Rosny College, offering students an authentic learning experience in the world of live music. It’s a professional-level production featuring performances by bands and acoustic acts, supported by live lighting and sound, event management, and media production.
This event is a collaborative effort involving staff and students from Contemporary Music & Songwriting, University Connections Songwriting, University Connections Foundation Practical Study, VET Live Production, VET Screen and Media, Technical Theatre, and other passionate contributors from across the college.
This year, we were thrilled to welcome two bands from Clarence High School to join the lineup, adding to the vibrant energy of the evening.
Everyone involved worked incredibly hard in the lead-up to RosnyStock, and that dedication was clearly reflected in the high standard of performance and production across all areas. The event not only showcased musical talent but also the behind-the-scenes expertise that brings a live show to life.
Three acts were selected by guest industry judges to represent Rosny at the Tasmanian Rock Challenge: acoustic act Lachie R., and bands Sunburn and Will’s Kittens. All three delivered fantastic performances at the Southern Heats at Altar, with Will’s Kittens advancing to the state final at the Launceston Conference Centre on September 12th.
Events like RosnyStock highlight the importance of performing arts education in senior secondary school. These programs foster creativity, collaboration, confidence, and real-world skills that extend far beyond the stage. Whether students pursue careers in the arts or apply these experiences elsewhere, it empowers young people to express themselves, connect with others, and thrive in diverse pathways.

So many brilliant book characters were spotted at our annual Book Week Morning Tea. The only day of the year where food and drinks are welcome in the library as we celebrate and share our love of reading. Thanks to Jill and our library staff for making this such a great event each year and of course all our staff and students who participated.
Time to start thinking about your costume for 2026?

Cupcake decorating, fabulous outfits, bracelet making, nail painting and much more happened at the ‘Purple Pop up’ on Wear it Purple Day this year, to show our support of LGBTQIA+ young people. We are looking forward to another great awareness campaign in 2026.

SPRINGBOARD OUT AND ABOUT IN TERM 3
Throughout Term Three, Access to Work has been making connections with a variety of businesses. These excursions have provided a wealth of knowledge about potential future options for our students after college. On the 24th of July we visited Uniting Tasmania Kitchen. We followed this up with a visit to the Building and Construction Expo on the 31st of July. The students really enjoyed the Excavator simulator. On the 7th of August we went to TasTAFE and saw all the potential learning opportunities that await us there. We also made it out to Foodbank and took part in making up food hampers for the community. We also had some return visits to Ten Lives, Dogs Home Tasmania and Hamlet Cafe.
