THE YOUNG ARCHIES
The 2025 Young Archies was a celebration of Tasmania’ artistic talent, and finalists were present from across the state. The competition (based on the national portrait prize; the Archibald) requires young people to create a portrait of a person they share a connection with.
From Rosny, strong finalists were selected: Bella and Minna (year 12); and Violet and Finn (year 11). Violet, a Visual Art 3 student, drew a charcoal portrait of her brother entitled “Jordan Halton”
Minna, a Studio Practice student, chose to paint an acrylic portrait of her brother, entitled “Rev”. Minna achieved a “Highly Commended” award.
Bella, a Visual Art 3 student, painted an acrylic portrait titled “Duality’s Embrace”, which was based on her classmate Hannah. Bella also achieved a “Highly Commended” award for her submission.
Finn, also a Visual Art 3 student, painted a portrait in oil of his classmate entitled “Nick in the Art Room”. Finn was the overall winner for the senior student category, as well as winning the prestigious Tony Woodward award
Held at the Fine Art school at Hunter Street, the atmosphere was upbeat, engaged and enthusiastic. We were all captivated by the range of work on display.
Congratulations Violet, Finn, Bella and Minna for your courage, talent, and hard work!
