HPOE
This term the Rosny College Expedition classes have experienced 2 fantastic camps.
From the 21 to the 23 March students had the opportunity to travel to Freycinet to learn about rock climbing and abseiling. The group had an amazing time at White Water Wall campground and explored the cliff areas of Lassies Wall and Harlequin Buttress as well as enjoying a swim in the rock pools of Bluestone Bay. We were treated to clear, sunny skies from Friday until Sunday with some light drizzle for the drive home. This group formed strong connections during the camp learning new skills and techniques in a cliff environment. Many of the group had completed two camps in two weeks making for very impressive camp cooking skills and camp craft on display! Some of the classic routes climbed at Lassies Wall included Crack Climb, Rose Ramble, Artemis, Road to Ruin and Ballyhoo, the group loved the challenge of rock climbing and comradery and support of working out the moves and reaching a new high point for each route. We look forward to sharing more camp adventures in the coming months!
On Friday 14 March, the Rosny College Expedition classes travelled to Fortescue Bay for their first camp. The group walked into Canoe Bay in beautiful weather to snorkel and explore the William Pit Wreck and shoreline. The warm temps and a love for the water meant the group were in no hurry to get out! We saw Draughtboard and Port Jackson sharks, large Marblefish and many other small fish species living in Canoe Bay. On Friday evening we pitched tents in the Fortescue Bay campground and prepared dinner whilst enjoying the calm sunset weather. There were some stand out camp chefs who prepared meals such as pesto pasta, nachos, and noodles but the highlight was Marina’s guacamole! After a good night’s sleep the group walked out to Cape Hauy, some found this to be quite a challenge in the 25-degree weather, the swim at the beach after finishing the walk made the tired legs feel fresh again in no time. The Expedition group are now re-packing and preparing for Rock Climbing Camp this weekend at Freycinet.
